And while it’s not all doom and gloom, she predicts death and destruction along with lotto wins, celebrities, movie sets and industry booms gracing the MIA in the year ahead.
“There needs to be attention to fire, there will be floods and fires coming up in the next 12 months, and everyone must be more observant and more prepared than ever before of snake bites,” Maria said.
“I do feel there will be more problems with drugs in the area, and I feel there will be another big drug bust, with a fair few arrests will be made.”
“One wine company over there will be exposed for embezzlement. There is going to be some investigation into a winery coming up sooner rather than later, and whoever is running the company at the moment, I do feel will come under a great deal of scrutiny.
“I also feel there is going to be a brawl outside The Area Hotel, and I see someone getting smashed in the face with glass.”
And as for the positives, she says farming, retail and money are coming to Griffith as well.
“There is going to be some interesting events, and I feel there will be a huge charity function for a hospital, and it will be a big success.”
”There is going to be another industry coming that cold save Griffith in the retail sector, and while it mightn’t not happen for another couple of years, it will mean that employment will increase, not decrease.”
”I also feel a movie crew around Griffith, I get production around the Griffith-Leeton area, and it could be based on the farming production from year dot to the present, with a story around it. It will bring a lot more attention to the area … I feel somebody is already talking about it.”
Maria also had some clear thoughts on our current water issues.
“With the Murray Basin I feel the pressure is going to be off. I feel the pressure being lifted there, they are not going to sell off the Murray basin, I never felt that. The issue will be resolved, one way or another.”
“The farming industry I feel, there has been a lot of sacrifice through lack of rain, and I felt that was going to change. It’s going to slowly pick up, slowly but surely, and production is going to be in line.”
Maria predicted a young person would drown in 2015 and information or a body would be found around Griffith, which also included foul play.
These predictions came true, Maria says, when Leeton school teacher Stephanie Scott’s body was found in Cocoparra National Park.
