Competition in Griffith between petrol stations seems strong enough to put a hold on skyrocketing prices on the lead up to the summer holidays, according to prices at local bowsers this week.

Newly-opened servos along Banna Avenue look to have local competitors keeping a close eye on each others’ prices, with all outlets setting their prices to within a range of 5c between $1.35 and $1.40/litre for unleaded 91.
However, figures from around regional NSW and major cities suggest despite remaining steady for the time being, prices will follow an upward trend over the next week.
However, it’s a different story in some of the larger regional cities, with some Wagga outlets already bumping up prices in the lead up to the busy Christmas holiday period.
The city’s cheapest regular unleaded was 131.9 cents per litre on Thursday morning at the Docker Street Shell, while both Caltex petrol stations and the BP were a whopping 149.9c.
When asked why Caltex was 15 cents per litre dearer than the independent service station across the road, a spokeswoman said: “The price of fuel has to factor in a number of elements such as underlying product costs, operational costs such as freight and different levels of local competition, all of which can vary.”
Across the region, petrol prices varied wildly. Coolamon’s Mobil was the cheapest at 122.9c, with an Albury independent close behind at 128.9c.
Further afield Gundagai had the region’s most expensive unleaded, starting at 139.9c.
NRMA regional affairs advisor Helen Machalias said with prices ranging by up to 20 cents per litre, it was definitely worth shopping around.
