After winning the toss and electing to bat Griffith made a slow start losing four quick wickets which threatened to derail any chances the side had of victory.
Hay’s Rupert Lilburne proved tough to deal with as he used the new ball to full effect to dismiss Phil Burge (0) and Dom Brown (0) in the third over.
Ben Arandt (2/39) back up the good bowling from Lilburne taking the wickets of Jimmy Binks (0) and Ben Watts (0) in the following over to have Griffith 4/10 after four overs.
It fell to the youth of Reece Matheson and Dean Bennett to lift Griffith into a competitive position and did so with a commanding 89-run stand before Matheson was dismissed by Lilburne.
Lilburne picked up his fifth wicket for the innings when he picked up Ryan Greenaway (2) before Andrew Potter came out to join Bennett who put his foot on the gas to get Griffith past the 150-mark. Potter (10) and Bennett (84) put on 62 for the seventh wicket before both fell in quick succession while Marc Tucker added some late runs to see Griffith bowled out for 191 in 43 overs.
Hay made a tough start as Nick Baird (4) was run out with the score on just five before Blake Aylett, and Jack Cattanach tried to lay the foundation.
Marc Tucker (3/21) put an end to that as he took three quick wickets in Aylett (5), Cattanach (9) and Mick Cattanach (2) while Connor Bock (1/9) picked up the wicket of Dayon Johnson (0)
With the score on 5/38, Luke Arandt had work ahead of him to get his side back on track with Hay needing 153 runs with just five wickets in hand.
Arandt and Lilburne offered the most resistance for Hay with a 48-run stand before Lilburne (18) was caught by Liam Greenaway off the bowling of Dom Brown.
Digby Lilburne (16) tried to continue the work started by the previous partnership Ryan Greenaway took a running catch on the boundary off the bowling of Liam Greenaway to have Hay on 7/117 off 35 overs.
Arandt tried to lead Hay to victory, but he was unable to find a partner to help his push towards the total with a rising run rate.
When Dean Aylett was bowled by Ryan Greenaway (1/10), it spelt the end for Hay as Ben Arandt followed soon after he was caught short of his ground.
Jock Crighton was the final wicket to fall when he was caught by Liam Greenaway off the bowling of Andrew Potter to see Hay finish on 143 off 40 overs.
Griffith next game will be in the New Year when they take on either Temora or Cootamundra in the O’Farrell Cup on January 7.
