Griffith Post School Options (GPSO) was recently the recipient of a $10,000 Westpac Foundation Community Grant.
GPSO Service Manager Roy Catanzariti said the machine was “much needed”.
“It will be able to be used by other vision impaired clients in our community. We’re very excited about it and proud to have it as part of our organisation,” Mr Catanzariti said.
“The funds have allowed us to purchase a state of the art Braille writers, printers and software, with the aim of enabling our service users who already use Braille as a means of communication to maintain and improve their existing skills.”
Additionally, the equipment can be used by qualified local Braille teachers to introduce Braille to, and conduct classes for members of the Griffith community.

Mr Catanzariti said the organisation was extremely grateful for the funding.
“We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the grant … We’re very thankful for the Westpac Foundation.”
The grant-giving ceremony was held to coincide with International Day of People with Disability and attended by community members, carers and employees of both organisations. The day included a demonstration of the new Braille machine.
Westpac Regional General Manager Bernie Sandral said they were happy to support community groups like GPSO.
“We remain committed to supporting not-for-profit organisations that work tirelessly to address social and economic disadvantage in our local community and are so pleased that Griffith Post School Options Inc. will be able to continue their great work which will benefit our region.
In addition to the grant, GPSO will also receive non-financial support from Westpac Group employees, acting as Community Grants Ambassadors.
Ambassadors will provide tailored support that such as financial and business services, marketing and HR.
