Lena Sergi is on a pair of firsts in the Long and Erica Cunial is on a pair of firsts in the Short, but it remains to be seen whether the pace can be maintained – although this is a short competition with just six races so staying power is not such an issue.
Lena is running faster than ever, a minute faster than last week and four minutes faster than last year.
In fact heaps of Joggers did PBs this week - this is the difference that a cool day makes on the Hotfoot.
Aidan Fattore started last and finished second, failing to round up only one runner, and produced the fastest time ever on this course which was first run in 2009.
Peter Stockwell was third, and Narelle Lagergren at 16th also set the fastest time ever by beating Ginny Hewitt and Teresa Burgess times by 30seconds.
Anthony Salmon at 11th did a PB thanks to his previous weekend’s torture training camp in the mountains, way back in the pack Michael Turnell ran 3.5 minutes faster to climb just one place, Tom Mackerras got the poops with his new start time and dogged it badly, and Michelle Signor is making her promotion to the long course look easy.
In the Short Erica Cunial survived a late sprint from Jack Johns, both running minutes faster.
Ava Low at third was scouting out the track in her first run and perhaps planning a big assault next time, although it might be said that the best time for a course record is already gone with the cooler weather planned to evaporate.
Ava navigated better than her mum who scored the slowest short course time ever, but had fun doing it, and claimed, “I might do the long every week”.
Isabella Salmon at fourth set the best ever time beating Sharon Careri’s 2013 time, with Callum Vecchio fifth, and Cooper Savage at eighth had fastest of the day.
The weather looks like warming up from here so it is probably time Joggers did their revision of the hot weather guidelines, which can be found on the FAQ page of the website.
