NSW Industrial Relations will be hosting workshops at Griffith on 23 November 2017 at the Quest Griffith.  The session will be held from 9.30am to 10.30am.

The workshops are part of a package of education measures, including a hotline and web- based information sessions for staff and employers. The Boxing Day reforms provide retail workers with the choice to work on December 26.

A two-year trial found clear support for unrestricted Boxing Day trade across NSW, allowing businesses outside Sydney’s CBD the option to open their doors on December 26.

New laws provide strict safeguards to protect workers, with retailers who force staff to work on Boxing Day facing fines of up to $11,000 per employee.

Building on the success of the inaugural event, Women in Rice is coming to Deniliquin on Monday, November 27 to connect, empower and educate women involved in the rice industry and wider farming community.

The Women in Rice network is a Rice Extension initiative, born out of the need to foster leadership and drive change in rural industries.

The inaugural Women in Rice event was held in Coleambally in June 2017 with resounding success.

Featuring keynote speaker AgriFutures Australia Chair, Kay Hull AM, the first event highlighted the importance of being proud of the rice industry and sharing the success stories.

The agenda for the day includes three keynote speakers who will focus on topics including succession planning, juggling jobs on and off farm, and a virtual farm tour.

Communications professional Lyn Sykes will facilitate an interactive session focused on personality types to improve communication skills and initiate difficult conversations.

SunRice Grower Services Field Officer and local farmer Anna Jewell will speak about her experiences balancing two roles, with a focus on prioritising her time on and off the farm.

Local rice farmer Diane Morona will take attendees on a virtual tour of her farm to share experiences related to running the farm business and insights into the rice industry.

Rice Extension is funded by rice growers and the Australian Government through AgriFutures Australia.
