Griffith Police exacted a peaceful end to a standoff with a resident at a Benerembah Street address on Tuesday afternoon.

At this stage, the male is still in hospital receiving treatment, and police are waiting before proceeding.

Chief Inspector John Wadsworth gives his thanks to the residents and everyone involved.

”What I appreciated yesterday was that people stayed out of the way, if they had to ask a question they went to the command post,” he said.

“The level of help for people from people who knew the person in question was outstanding, everyone was helping and no one was hindering the process at all.”

He said looking back, the combination of good police work and community cooperation meant there was nothing that could have been done differently, or things people could have done to help the process any more than they did.

“When we have a police operation like that, especially when we have concerns for welfare, they usually take a long time and a lot of resources, and we understand that to move people from the premises if a difficult process, but for their safety we did it, and its a credit to the people we spoke to, who immediately listened to our requests, combined with the good police work, that the event was finalised without a further incident.”
