Nearby witnesses earlier reported an ongoing ‘siege’ at the location.
However, Griffith Police confirmed a ‘police operation’ was underway at an apartment building on the street, after an earlier incident at the address.
They said there was ‘concern for welfare’ at a unit at the location.
Police declined to release further information until the standoff came to an end around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.
“Shortly after 1pm on Tuesday, police had reason to attend a property at Benerembah Street,” Chief Inspector John Wadsworth said at the scene.
“At this time, a single male occupant of the residence that they wished they speak to denied entry.
“Police had concerns for the male’s welfare. As result of that a command station was established and a negotiation took place.
“I’m pleased to say the male occupant of the residence is now in police custody and is being review by medical staff.
There were no reports of injuries.
Police evacuated the top floor of the building, and thanks residents for their cooperation.
“(We’d) also like to thank motorists for staying out of the way while the operation took place,” Chief Inspector John Wadsworth said.
Roads leading to the building were blocked, and police are urging residents to stay clear of the area.
The street was reopened to traffic soon after the occupant left the building.
Griffith LAC, Highway Patrol, firefighters and paramedics were on the scene.
