“The 64 page booklet features information from across the region – a first for our visitor guide.”
Ms Stead said the book is now available online, or to pick up for for free at the Visitors Information Centre, Griffith Regional Theatre, Griffith Airport, Griffith City Library and accommodation outlets across the region.
Ms Stead said the guide, designed by the company Bubble Design, also works well as a coffee table book.
“Griffith is the regional hub for this area, servicing a population of more than 52,000 people so it made a lot of sense to include our neighbouring towns and their attractions in order to attract more people to stay in the region an extra night or two.”
Karly Sivewright, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes taking photos for the guide and organising events featured in it, said the guide has also been distributed to visitor centres across NSW and the ACT – so it may lure in tourists who had not originally planned to come to the MIA.
Acting Manager Tourism & Economic Development, Mr Phil Harding said tourism is an important economic driver, with the Riverina attracting more than one million visitors annually.
“According to the latest DNSW statistics, in 2017 domestic overnight visitors to the Riverina, injected $379 million into the economy, and this is up by 5.1% on YE March 2016,” said Mr Harding.
“The Griffith Region Guide is a key tool in marketing the region and will be taken to trade shows, placed in conferencing packs and welcome kits...”
The booklet follows Griffith City Council’s launch of a video to promote Griffith tourism earlier this year.
Griffith Mayor Councillor John Dal Broi encourages residents to head to the Griffith Visitor Information Centre to pick up copies to have on hand when family and friends visit.
“It is coming up to the holiday season and the Guide will be able to help you plan an unforgettable trip for those staying in Griffith – be sure to give them copies to take back to their friends, I can guarantee they’ll want to visit the region!” said Councillor Dal Broi.
“A lot of hard work has gone into the development of this Guide and I would like to congratulate staff on providing a world class booklet which will certainly encourage people to stop in Griffith and learn about this great region.”
