She competed in the National Titles in Melbourne, and placed fifth in the Ms Bikini Mommas section competing against 13 other Australian mothers, while lucking out in the Ms Bikini 30+ and Ms Bikini Open category.
“I was waiting for the other names to be called out, so when I placed in the top five, it really came as a surprise,” Ms Barnby said.
“We were kind of using this competition as a bench mark to see how hard I had to work next season, but never thought I’d get through.”
This placement means she will now be competing on the world stage in Bali on October 28.
“I didn’t feel as much pressure in this competition as I did in Canberra because I didn’t think I was going to place, so I was a lot more relaxed.”
Dee’s journey has been inspirational, with the mum loosing around 33kgs in a meager six months to regain her before-baby body.
She says getting to meet the other women competing was a highlight of her trip.
“I had a lot of fun chatting to the girls back stage, so I was in a good mood before I walked on.”

Her journey, aided with trainer Jason Grogan from Jason’s Gym, has lead her to not only achieve personal goals but to shine on the National stage and compete with other women.
“It was definitely a great experience, competing at a National level and seeing how I come up against others like me,” Ms Barnby said.
“I was so nervous, but I’ve been practicing my moves over and over, so it’s like going on auto pilot when I’m on the stage.”

Trainer Jason Grogan is certainly proud of her achievements so far, and says it’s a pleasure working with her.
He describes Dee as someone who always gives 100 per cent in motivation and dedication to her journey, making it enjoyable for him to see her progress.
“As a trainer, I was definitely on a high when she placed,” Mr Grogan said.
“I think next year she will really hit her stride … and I see a lot of people come through who just don’t have the dedication to the lifestyle like Dee has.”
Mr Grogan thinks one of Dee’s best attributes, aside from her dedication, is her radiant smile, and thinks her stage presence will really shine through on the world platform in Bali.
