The side will join sides from Ardlethan/Barellan, Hay, Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong and Griffith and will play at least two games before a potential grand final.
It will be the town’s first taste of representative cricket this season, and it comes at a tough time for player numbers according to captain Nathan Carn.
“We will have a pretty young side,” he said.
“The HSC sort of put a spanner in the works with a few of the younger guys as well but youth is what you need for Twenty20 anyway.”
There hasn’t been a Twenty20 competition in Leeton for a number of years and heading into the weekend Carn said the side would be up against it given the little amount of the format played at club level.
“It’s a pretty big disadvantage in that respect,” he said.
“It’s not something we are use to especially when it comes to setting the field and rotating the bowling and that sort of thing.
“It will be a good experience for the younger guys.”
The competition doubles as selection trials for the Murrumbidgee Rangers side that will take on Southern Riverina Vipers, Border Bullets and Wagga Wagga Sloggers at Exies Oval in early November in the Regional Big Bash.
The game will also be Carn’s first a captain, but he isn’t putting any extra pressure on himself.
“It is just another day really,” he said.
“There are a couple of experienced guys in the side who I can turn to for advice if I need it.”
