EIGHT well performed gallopers have been unveiled as the finalists for the 2016-17 Southern District Racing Association (SDRA) Horse of the Year.

Wagga trainer Trevor Sutherland has three of his team among the finalists throughout the three categories, while Albury trainer Kym Davison has two up for the top award in Overdue and Vinnie Vega.

There are eight finalists for the Horse of the Year, but the two and three-year-olds are also eligible for the overall award.

Among the finalists are Albury Gold Cup third placegetter Overdue, Country Championship heat winner Lautaro and TAB Highway Handicap winner Itsa Fait Accompli.

SDRA secretary Scott Sanbrook is impressed by the quality of finalists.

“It’s a strong line up of finalists and also a really even spread,” he said.

“It’s not going to be easy for the judges.”

The SDRA committee judge the awards.

The winners will be announced at the SDRA Awards night at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Wednesday, November 29.
