For Dianne Millar, this is all too real, and after her own experience with Nodular Melanoma, has started a fundraiser to help research end the fight with this cancer.
“I myself found a raised pink lump, didn’t worry about it and it didn’t raise alarm bells at all, and never did for my GP either, but he took it out and he saved my life.”
“It’s a rare one called Nodular Melanoma, and I’ve had two, and since then it’s actually spread five times, but I feel really lucky because it’s localised in the leg, and I haven’t had one for six months so far.”
Her close calls have made her determined to raise awareness of melanoma, to help the people living with it and enable research to protect future generations.

“I just want to get the message out there that it’s so so important to check your skin and have regular check ups,” said Ms Millar.
“I’m not really one for getting out there but when I saw ’leave your hat on’ advertised I thought I’ve got to do something.”
It’s been 10 days so far and people have already donated $1200 to her cause, with a sizable anonymous donation made from Queensland.
“There are very generous people here, so I’m hoping they’ll get behind me. I don’t have a goal of how much I think every little bit helps, no matter how big or small.”
