While Griffith has secured weather segments in the past, the visit will be the first time the city has hosted Today Show in its entirety.
The opportunity is something Griffith City Council mayor John Dal Broi says is thanks to a group of dedicated Griffith Ambassadors who have been working hard behind the scenes.
“This is one of the most exciting promotional opportunities Griffith has ever seen,” Cr John Dal Broi said.
“Having the Today Show here in Griffith with an audience of around 300,000 viewers, presents an incredible opportunity to demonstrate and showcase what Griffith is really about ...”
The Today Show allegedly expected a $100,000 retainer before committing to visiting the region.
“It humbles me to be part of such an amazing community – no matter what it is, we dig deep and we make things happen in Griffith!” Cr Dalo Broi said.
“More than nine local businesses and organisations have contributed funds to bring the Today Show to Griffith and I thank them sincerely for their generous support.”
This opportunity would not have been possible if it were not for the support and hard work of people like Roy Spagnolo and the other businesses and groups who got behind the idea.
One of the men working behind the scenes to make the broadcast a reality was Roy Spagnolo.
“The Today Show Senior Producer and cameraman were here a couple of weeks ago prerecording some industry stories and getting some gorgeous area footage,” Mr Spagnolo said.
“The Today Show featuring Griffith will capture our people, our cultural richness, our outstanding food, heritage and our upcoming Spring Fest events.”
“There will also be a regional produce showcase table highlighting our diversity of produce and a live cooking segment with some local chefs, plus some added surprises,” he added.
The Today Show will take over Memorial Park on Wednesday September 27 to go live with the Griffith show.
“I would like to encourage the community to come along – bring your families, friends, co-workers, everyone and anyone, and be part of the audience. It all kicks off from 5.30am running through to the end of the Show at 9am,” Cr Dal Broi said.
Rotary Avanti will be running a barbeque on Wednesday morning to feed the hungry crowd and Real Juice Company will be supplying orange juice.
Today Show’s 2012 Griffith floods coverage.
If you would like to assist on the Tuesday prior to the Show, the working group are
seeking volunteers to assemble a few citrus sculptures for the background and we are
seeking community members to be one of the four Today Show animal mascots – a
panda bear, kangaroo, koala and pig! If you are keen to be involved, contact the
Tourism and Economic Development Team on 6962 8400 or keep an eye on the Visit Griffith facebook page.
