The completion means Griffith will receive it’s water supply from the Murrumbidgee River starting from between August 5 – 10, after the large backlash over sourcing drinking water from Lake Wyangan last week.
Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) General Manager of Delivery, Jody Rudd has commended efforts to see the upgrades worked completed on schedule.
Mr Rudd said MI’s focus has been on completing the works in an efficient manner, and made a special mention to the dedicated workers who made this happen.
“Staff and contractors have been working both over weekends, and on rotation, to ensure that works will be completed on schedule.”
“Our focus has always been on getting our works completed in the most timely and efficient manner, to enable customers’ access to water as soon as possible,” he said.

MI have now started to fill Bundigerry storage and some parts of the Main Canal to support critical water needs, and remaining works on the Main Canal are on schedule to be completed by July 31.
“This has been a once in a life time opportunity to modernise our Main Canal and set up the region for the future,” he added.
“We are committed to delivering value to our customers … these modernisation works will reduce our operating costs and increase Main Canal capacity and flow rates.”
The $15 million refurbishment of the Main Canal is in conjunction with other works on supply systems branching off, with the replacement of Roaches Regulator near Yanco complete.
