The loss of the Pathologist will mean no frozen sections will be available to enable operations for cancer.  So are we going back to travelling to Wagga or Sydney? OR This could be the forerunner to future downgrades.

In fact I am fearful for the future of the Hospital as it is.

With the transfer of the sterilisation system to the New Hospital, and city Specialists operating there, I can see all operations being scheduled for the new hospital, with patients then transferred to the Base for care, physio etc. thus downgrading the Base to a care only facility.

I have always been suspicious since the Government was supportive of the Community Private Hospital (Whether a Private hospital could be a community one is doubtful, but that’s another story). I could see Government money being put in there rather than the Base Hospital. (What do they say, “privatisation “ is the way to go.

And as many general practitioners have shares in the private Pathology groups in Griffith, it is of no concern to them what happens to the public Pathology Department.

I feel for the Pathology staff, and all those others who will be affected, and will be doing my bit to argue against any downgrading.

Who is going to have the intestinal fortitude to inquire into the Murray-Darling situation?

There must be collusion between people in power to enable these things to happen – and someone must know what is going on.

And where has the Minister for Agriculture been during all this time?

WHO allowed the basic premise of the MDWB ( returning water to the environment) to be hijacked?

Who stopped the authorisation of Jamie Morgan’s proposed enquiry?

Who turned a blind eye to road changes in that Shire Council area?

Who never saw huge water storages (holding more than could be legally taken) being built on one property?

Who turned a blind eye to “broken” metering systems?

AND WHO is benefitting from this ?

It is becoming pretty obvious that once we elect them, the majority of politicians treat us with contempt and think we have no right to query their actions, decisions etc.

This is about WATER, without which we do not survive.

So, I ask again: Who is going to have the guts to stand up and be counted?

Oh for the days of the Hospital Board that consisted of interested caring citizens of Griffith often with pressing business commitments, who gave their time on a voluntary basis to oversee and organise the management of a very complex institution as a hospital for the benefit of the community and surrounding district.

On the 12th of October 1995 the final board meeting was held and so ended an institution relying on the capable intuitive ability of "ordinary citizens" to the broader management of a Government Department.

Please, everyone help our hospital and remember all the wonderful men and women who over the years have worked so tirelessly for the benefit of us all.
