As Hanwood look to catch up to Yoogali SC in goal difference, they made the right steps picking up a 14-nil win.
The result came largely thanks to a great day at the office for Michael Cimador, who scored five goals, and Phillip Middlemiss, who scored four.
Hanwood was able to put pressure on the Wests defence early and they took full advantage with it with Cimador wrapping up his hat-trick before the interval to see the side go in at halftime leading 6-0.
The second half was much of the same for Hanwood as Middlemiss wrapped up his hat-trick with two goals within minutes of each other.
Wests did have a chance to break through with Jordon Keefe looking at an open goal after a rebound found its way to his feet however a lack of control saw the ball blasted over.
Coach Jason Bertacco was pleased to see his side taking advantage of their chances which the side struggled with earlier in the season.
“It is a positive that the last two weeks we have been able to take in some of the things we have been practising and put the goals away,” he said.
“We still missed a few today, but it is a positive that we are putting teams away and that we are also keeping it to zero.”
The scoreline could have been more one-sided with Whites being caught offside numerous times throughout the game.
“That is just a mental thing really. Going forward we have just got to keep that line,” he said.
“I think everyone just got a bit over excited and everyone was trying to push forward, so there were three or four people in a line offside and that come in in these games when they blow out a bit they get a bit excited and run forward.
“Mentally you just have to keep your head in the game because those offsides can count against you in the bigger games.”
While Bertacco was pleased with the performance of his forwards, he pointed towards the centre of the group for his best player.
“They (Cimador and Middlemiss) were good with their finishing,” he said.
“I think Kyle Greaves was one of our bests.
“He was buzzing around the midfield it was real positive. He is really kicking on now that he is back, so it is really good to see him moving around.”
The result now sets up an exciting encounter with the two undefeated teams going head-to-head next week for the battle for top spot when Hanwood take on arch rivals Yoogali SC.
