Council is inviting comments on the new skatepark design concept’s final draft, with construction expected to commence in December 2017.
The designers of the new skate park concept conducted a consultation workshop in Griffith over the April school holidays for the new skate park in conjunction with a skate event and competition which was run by TOTEM Skateboarding.
Mayor John Dal Broi said extensive data was collected and collated, leading to an amended skate park design extending over a portion of the current bicycle training facility and incorporates a number of new skate elements.
"The proposed state-of-the-art skatepark will establish a new and exciting place within the Griffith city centre,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“Council has already carried out extensive consultation with key stakeholders, and this is now opportunity for the community at large to have the final say on what will be a fantastic asset for Griffith".

"I, and the other Councillors, are looking to the school leaders to engage with their peers to go over the designs with a fine-tooth comb to make sure the skate park ticks all the boxes.
“School students are going to be key users of the skatepark and we need to know what they think.”
The Skate Park Focus Group, which compromises a number of skateboarders, BMX, WCMX (wheelchair), mountain bike and scooter riders, have been instrumental in advising the designers.
Morgan Campbell, a professional skateboarder and designer at En:Locus Pty Ltd says although it is much-loved, the current Griffith skatepark does not cater for all users.
“After several consultations with locals we have been able to conceptualise a state of the art space that caters for all types of users and contains both street style and transitional elements,” Campbell said.
Griffith City Council was successful in receiving funding for the project through the Public Reserves Management Fund Program by the NSW Department of Industry.
The final draft concepts are available for viewing at the Council Administration Building, Library, Griffith Regional Theatre or or on Council’s website at griffith.nsw.gov.au.
Anyone wishing to make comment on the design concept can do so in writing, addressed to the General Manager, Griffith City Council. Comments or submissions will be received up to 4 pm, Friday, August 11.
