Although it was not always smooth sailing for the Swans in the first half with the sides only separated by 13 points heading into the main break, the Griffith side was able to put their foot down in the third term kicking four goals to none.
Coach Adrian Pavese knew it was going to be tough for his side to back up the effort from their game against the Crows but was pleased with the effort in the second half.
“In the first half we scrambled and we scrapped,” he said.
“We not at our best from last week and obviously that was going to be tough coming off a big win but our second half was really good.”
The third quarter was the most pleasing for Pavese with his side able to limit the impact the Hoppers had on the scoreboard to just four points.
“We have been trying to make sure we don't slip when we are not at our best and show some fight and I thought were really good,” he said.
Much of the good play from the Swans according to Pavese was coming when his side was working hard through the middle.
“Coming through the middle and cleaning it up and being strong at the contest,” he said.
“Once we got it right in the second half it just showed that we are pretty damaging on the scoreboard.”
The final quarter was much of the same after Coolamon kicked their first in over a quarter of football.
Their goal did little to slow the momentum of the Swans who kicked away again with four unanswered including two hard-working goals from Jordan Iudica.
After the game, there was one first gamer who really caught Pavese’s eye.
“Reece Matheson in his first game was terrific,” he said.
“I thought Sam Daniels was great as well.
“The back six were really solid to keep them to four goals, so that was great.”
The win sees the Swans jump into fourth place with an eight-point lead over the sixth placed Coolamon.
