Residents would have last week rolled out of bed to the news being slashed over their televisions that Bernard Tomic had given a laughable press conference.
In that press conference he displayed quite the attitude about the game that has given him so much saying he would be basically able to coast along for the next 10 years before retiring and not having to work another day.
Tomic’s thoughts may well be correct, but it was his attitude that many were shocked by.
He basically admitting to tanking his first round match at Wimbledon and faking an injury.
Surely those players that were on the cusp with Tomic while growing up must want to shake him silly and talk some sense into him.
While their dreams of being a tennis star who has the privilege of playing at the hallowed turf of Wimbledon were dashed, Tomic appears to now just be coasting through to pick up the cash.
What has changed and why does he feel this way?
Of course, the game is work to him and anyone would know there are always good and bad days with any employment.
However, when someone like Tomic is this talented, surely it’s worth giving it your all and chasing the big time.
Tomic has a lot to learn not just about the game, but life itself.
There is always going to be good and bad days, but his current attitude isn’t the right one to have.
He is lucky to be where he is today and, sure his talent has played a part, but there would have been many others around him who have always had a hand in it.
The other supposed Aussie “bad boy” of tennis Nick Kyrgios returned from his first round match injured, but was then spotted out hours later partying in London.
Kyrgios has always lived by the beat of his own drum and this is no different.
He has a life outside of tennis, so while many may disagree he is able to have his own life outside of the game.
Hopefully his injury was legitimate, but even so he is allowed his own time and life to do what he likes. It’s the actual playing of the game that is the issue for these two players, who must surely realise time is ticking and the game won’t be there forever.
