Ben: They reckon it was the biggest fight in Australian boxing history, Speedy. Is that fair?

Speedy: If it wasn’t the biggest it’d certainly be top three. I reckon the Green-Mundine fights would be up there, Jeff Fenech-Azumah Nelson would be up there, and Joe Frazier's fight in Melbourne in 1975 against Jimmy Ellis.
Ben: How’d the fight actually stack up as a contest?
Speedy: It was an action-packed fight all the way. I think Pacquiao was very surprised at the aggression shown by Horn in the opening rounds. Pacquiao squared some rounds, and he certainly won the ninth round … but Horn showed plenty of courage in the 10th. I had it a draw at the end, so it was no surprise to me when Horn won it.
Ben: Horn had nothing to lose in this fight though.
Speedy: That’s right. His came out aggressively and it won him the fight. Pacquiao’s vast experience didn’t seem to worry Horn.
Ben: People are calling it a real-life Rocky story aren’t they?
Speedy: It’s a Rocky story alright. A humble school teacher from Queensland. I hope he doesn’t have as many fights as Rocky by the end of his career. Having said that, he’s got the world at his feet now.
Ben: So what’s the next step for these two?
Speedy: In their contracts there’s a clause for a rematch if Pacquiao was beaten … and they both said they’re keen in the interviews after. Pacquiao was all class after the fight too, not like some of those Americans after a decision.
Ben: What if it’s the end of Manny?
Speedy: I like him as a boxer. He gives his all. Maybe he has just slipped a little, but he’s still a pretty good fighter by world standards.
Ben: There’s another fight coming up being touted by some as one of the world’s biggest match ups. What do you think of the MMA champ McGregor vs the unbeaten Mayweather in the boxing ring?
Speedy: That’s rubbish. I don’t know how people can come up with that. McGregor’s never been in a boxing ring in his life. Will people pay that sort of money to watch it on pay TV?
Ben: There’s some serious cash being thrown around Speed.
Speedy: I wouldn’t watch it for nothing. The TV cameras will be rolling, but Michael John Stratton won’t be watching. Though I’d jump in the ring with Mayweather for $20M.
Ben: You would absolutely back yourself too Speed. In your prime of course.
Speedy: I would, straight to the TAB. I tell you what though, Mayweather would think my left hand was a toffee apple on a stick, it’d be right under his mouth.
