For the past decade, parents and grandparents have been bringing their babies to the library for nursery rhymes, songs, finger plays, and dance with puppets and percussion instruments.
The program aims to promote language and literacy development in an interactive, fun-filled environment.
Mum Pria Gray and Grandma Tracy Trefilo have been bringing 11-month-old Arlo since he was just six weeks old.
“It took him six visits before he finally cracked a smile. He likes to assess things carefully, but no he’s in to it. It’s great socialisation for him,” Ms Gray said.
Molly Light’s three month old Huey has been coming since he was just three weeks.
“He loves the songs and seems to understand all the instructions” Ms Light said.
Disco Master Rina Cannon has been running the show on-and-off for its full ten years.
“Everyone loves it. I used to bring my son Luke here.”
“We usually get about 40 babies come along, and more than 80 with all the parents and carers.”
Some of the brave toddlers run to the stage and dance in front of everyone.
Griffith City Library say the sessions encourage valuable one-on-one time between parent and child and are also a great networking opportunity for parents and carers.
Baby bounce runs for half an hour everyTuesday moring from 10:00am. For more information contact Griffith City Library on 6962 8300 and visit the website https://www.griffith.nsw.gov.au/cp_themes/library/home.asp.
