The day looked promising, with the 3.30pm Coro Club A Grade fixture featuring the highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash between Pinnacle HPC and Tonann Diamonds.
However, it was not to be, with injury, illness and absences decimating the Tonann Diamonds side – so much so that they were forced to forfeit.
This sees the Pinnacle HPC side move two points clear on the ladder and Tonnan relegated to third in a significant shift coming into the break.
The remaining Coro Club A Grade fixture was between ES Sprightly and Rep 15s.
With the Rep 15s team positioned out of the top four, an expected victory from Sprightly was delivered in a convincing fashion.
With Reps’ Layne Foley suffering an early ankle injury, the team was left with just six on the court.
The girls fought to the end but a dominant shooting performance by Sprightly’s Eliza Baddock and Nicola Harbison never really saw the result in doubt. With State Age Championships a week away, we wish Layne a speedy recovery.
In the Ill Corso Café B Grade competition, first-placed DeBortoli’s drew with the improving Deadlies side, while Not the Princesses defeated Griffith Motor Group by two in a close one.
With Rep 14s having the bye, this sees them join DeBortoli’s at the top with Griffith Motor Group and Not the Princesses just a few points behind.
In MIA Coaches C Grade action, SPS/Doms/Bowmans defeated Big Chix in another close result. This sees the C Grade ladder quite congested, making for some interesting contests when games resume in July.
Finally, good luck to our 12, 13, 14 and 15-year-old rep teams who are off to compete in Sydney this weekend. We wish them all the best.
The representative girls will make the trip up to Minto to take part in the State Age Championships.
They will be looking to match the performance from the 17s side who finished seventh in Division Two at their State Carnival earlier in the month.
All sides are confident of coming away from the carnival with success after strong showings in the other events held throughout the year.
The best-looking team to take out the carnival is the 15s side who have already tasted success having won the events at West Wyalong and Parkes while picking up seconds at Orange and Griffith.
Coach Junior Orake was confident in his side winning because they have faced most of the teams already.
