In addition to being a Round 10 clash, the two teams contest the Frank Fiamara Cup whenever they play their local derby. Yanco retain the Cup they won earlier this season.
Leeton led 12-0 at half-time, but Yanco stormed back early in the second stanza to level the scores at 12all. The match remained tight throughout but Yanco-Wamoon edged their neighbours in the end.
It was a great day for the Hawks, who also won the Under 18s and Reserve Grade matches.
Leeton did have big wins in the Under 16s match and League tag girls game.
The much needed first grade win lifts Yanco-Wamoon to 11 points. They remain sixth place, just behind West Wyalong Mallee Men, who stay on 12 points after losing narrowly to Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo.
Leeton remain seventh on 8 points.
