In a NSW first, talented artist Heesco Knosnaran is on the verge of completing an artistic transformation of a series of silos in Weethalle as part of a project supported by Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson, Bland Shire Council and the NSW Government.
The international artist is now putting the finishing touches on the silos after a week of breathtaking paintwork.
The silos will feature a shearer in action and other depictions of farming, in an artistic nod to the region’s agricultural heritage.
“I’m so pleased to have supported this project getting off the ground and it will help put Weethalle further on the map,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
“The finished product will be stunning and we can only hope this will kickstart similar projects across the electorate and beyond.
“Much credit must obviously go to the artist but also to Bland Shire and Western Riverina Art for having the passion and vision to allow it to happen.”
Silo art projects are already a huge tourism drawcard in Victoria and Ms Hodgkinson said the Weethalle project would draw more visitors to the town and the Bland Shire.
The mural was funded by Western Riverina Arts, proudly supported by the NSW Government.
The official opening of the Weethalle Silo Art project will be held from 3.30pm on Saturday, 1 July.
