The video, with the footage of the region by Vince Bucello, was released by Griffith City Council’s Tourism and Economic Development Team, and showcases what the region has to offer to those unfamiliar to the city and surrounds.
Councillor Christine Stead, Chairperson of the Tourism and Events Committee said the short video captures the essence of Griffith region, including agriculture, progressive industries, our history, lifestyle and the vibrancy of our city and its people.
“The eight-minute video really paints a picture of what Griffith is all about,” Cr Stead said.
Owner of Bella Vita tours Cassandra Smeeth has been a keen advocate in supporting tourism to the MIA region, and applauds the move suggesting the video is “exactly what we need”.
“I was really impressed when I saw it the other night, I think I said it five or six times!” Mrs Smeeth said.
“With the tours, people come here and they have no idea about the stuff that we’ve got here, and even sending the video out to people when they’ve booked saying here is a little snapshot of Griffith, and it builds that excitement”.
Paige Campbell the Marketing and Promotion manager from Griffith tourism and Economic development says while this video is a step in the right direction, it is part of a broader scheme to increase tourism to Griffith.
“Raising Griffith's profile as a destination and a place to visit, do business and live - stimulates our local economy and is a boost for all our local businesses,” she said.
“The team here are also producing a new Griffith region guide, which has increased by 10 pages, takes a regional approach and features our boutique shopping and foodies, as Griffith has a fabulous restaurant, wine and producer scene.”
The video will be screened at the airport, council foyer, and at the visitor information centre, and will also be used at trade shows on Destination Griffith stands.
It will also be uploaded to YouTube for use across online platforms with 30-second grabs used in social media and on the website.
“Moving forward, we will be showcasing Griffith Region products and producers at major food and wine shows,” Ms Campbell said.
Ms Smeeth has spoken her encouragement of the tourism scheme promoting Griffith, otherwise, “it’s just another town in the middle of nowhere.”
“I think that it’d be good to do some expos in the bigger cities like Melbourne and Canberra, much like Orange and Mudgee do, by taking a mini version of Griffith to those cities and getting people to eat and drink and taste Griffith,” she said.
