Police and fire services were called to the scene of the blaze, a plot of vacant land on Bilbul Road, at 11.30 pm on Tuesday night.
Already a raging inferno by the time emergency services arrived the car was fully engulfed by the flames, but was soon extinguished by the efforts of the local fire brigade.
The car, an abandoned red Hyundai, was completely destroyed following the fire, which appears to have been deliberately lit.
Fortunately the blaze failed to cause any other injuries to people and places, however things could always have been much different according to Inspector Nick Seddon from the Griffith Local Area Command.
“When it comes to car fires like these there are all sorts of dangers, who knows what is inside the car or how much petrol is in the tank,” he said.
“The car was abandoned in a field so there’s always the possibility that grass fires can happen quite easily and then there’s the danger of the fire catching onto the surrounding area and crops,” he said.
