While the results might not have fallen in their favour, the Griffith side who travelled to Sydney for the NSW Hockey Open Men’s third division championships is happy with their effort.

The team finished the three-day event with one win which came against Metro South West Three in a low scoring 2-1 match.

Captain Andrew Sinclair was happy with the effort his side showed over the weekend.

“We started a bit slow as we were making our adjustments from grass to turf,” he said.

“Once we made the adjustment I felt we did pretty well.

“Our transition into attack was better than it has been in previous years and we were able to create more scoring opportunities.”

The side also had to deal with missing one of their players for the last two games after they picked up a shoulder injury which required surgery.

Sinclair felt it was hard to point to specific performances as standouts over the weekend.

“In general, Simon Speers was the pick of our players as he worked hard in defence,” he said.

Jason Wade was also strong at the back and Jason Rosenow and Blake Wiseman worked well in attack.”

Sinclair felt the progress showed by the team was good even though they didn’t come away with a bag full of wins and if the team remains together over the coming years, the improvement will continue.
