Mrs Shields is based in Griffith but covers Leeton, Hay, Hillston, Lake Cargelligo and all communities in between.
The growing number of women diagnosed with breast cancer in the region warrants further support.
That’s why local businesses are urged to get behind Pink Up Griffith in October, with the Griffith Real Estate (GRE) and the Griffith Cancer Council kicking off preparations this month.
The McGrath Foundation, which raises money to place breast care nurses in communities across Australia and to increase breast awareness, wants to see communities pink up their town to fund their initiatives.
A big fundraising effort in Griffith will make a strong case for the McGrath Foundation to increase breast cancer nurse funding for Griffith and surrounding areas.
“I’d like to see funding for a breast cancer nurse five days a week, or at least four,” Tony Santolin, GRE, said.
People are urged to wear pink, to decorate their homes and businesses pink, and collect donations throughout October.
For just $40, Griffith businesses can buy a pink up pack, with basic supplies to pink up their shopfront or office.
Mr Santolin said that a lot can be learned by the highly successful pink up effort Mudgee last year, where $141,000 was raised.
The town went over the top in pinkness, with pink lighting up the main street and even a pink cricket match being played.
Mr Santolin met with Mudgee and McGrath foundation representatives this week to plan for this October.
Griffith’s proudest year was 2015, when Hugh Bateman rode his pink tractor through the MIA, and $25,000 was raised.
Businesses who would like to get involved in the October festivities can contact Talia Macri at Griffith Real Estate, by email at Reception@griffithre.com or by phone at 69621455.
