Ever humble Mrs Marriott was quick to point out her many helpers in putting together the city’s annual fundraiser, with a team of 25 volunteers and innumerable businesses also stepping up to make the day a reality.
Jason Vaccari even got his hands dirty for the cause, Mrs Marriott said, baking 250 scones to add to the feast on offer.
The function room of the Exies Bagtown was almost completely packed out just half an hour into the event as the community again turned out in droves to support a cause so close to all of their hearts.
“I am continually blown away by everyone’s support, it is just amazing,” Mrs Marriott said on Friday.
It is an effort impressing the Cancer Council every year, according to community and events coordinator Bree Carracher. “Deanna and her team do an incredible job every year I think they should be proud of what they do, and we owe them a massive thanks,” she said.
“This is a positive way to come together to talk about something that is very difficult.”
Ms Carracher said the enormous effort would directly benefit the local community in a number of ways, first and foremost by funding research to find a cure.
“This helps fund things like the transport to treatment vehicle we have based here in Griffith,” she explained.
“It helps cancer patients get to treatment and it is free we have volunteers who do the driving – it has been running here for 12 months.”
