It may have been a ‘long time coming’ but the Griffith Men’s Shed breathed a sigh of relief after Griffith City Council agreed to waive the repayment of an outstanding loan on Tuesday night.

The motion was moved by Councillor Dino Zappacosta who told fellow Councillors the men at the shed gave a lot to the community and it would be money well spent at Tuesday’s council meeting.
The Men’s Shed originally applied to council for a grant to help them move to their current location, but council at the time made the decision to give it to them as a loan.
Now after years of religiously paying off their instalments the shed’s members can focus on the good work they do for the community.
It was welcome news to the dedicated members present on Wednesday morning who said they could now turn their minds to addressing other issues they were facing.
“What we really need is more members,” lifetime member Reg Fallon said on Wednesday morning.
“We don’t even expect them to come in and work, they can just come in and have a yarn and look after their mental health.”
The men hosted a family day last weekend, opening their doors to adults and children of the community in an effort to bring in more people – with another scheduled in the coming months.
Mr Fallon said council had “spent their money well”, an opinion backed up by his fellow members who were hopeful council would now continue their support.
“This is a good organisation, they’re doing something for someone all the time for free,” Jack Vearing said. The men thanked Bunnings and Area Builders for their tireless support over the years.
