Off the back of success at the 2017 National Youth Archery Championships in Morwell, Victoria, at the start of April, Lawrence has again shown his accuracy once again.
The 16-year-old made the trek to Sydney to take part in the event which is where Archery Australia selects its seniors to represent Australia at the international World Cups.
While Lawrence was only participating in the event purely in anticipation for the World Youth Team, he performed well.
In the difficult condition with strong winds facing the competitors in the qualifying round, Lawrence was able to place ninth out of 23 in the open men’s category.
With his qualifying position, he was then thrown into matches against some of the best archers in Australia.
His first game he took on the Victorian head coach and, after both had a rough start, Lawrence was able to come out on top.
His quarter-final was against Alex King from Sydney who came into the event ranked second.
The pair were going arrow for arrow and heading into the second-last end level Lawrence needed to pull off something special.
He obliged, delivering two perfect 30/30 with King only managing to score two 28/30.
The semi-final saw Lawrence take on Rio Olympic bronze medallist and world indoor champion Johnathon Milne.
The training came to a head and Lawrence was able to put down two perfect rounds in the first two ends.
The 16-year-old maintained his composure to take out the match by four points to send him to the gold medal match.
The grand final was against a multiple World Cup representative Danie Oosthuizen.
He was ranked number one in the competition and Lawrence knew what he had to do to get the win.
Lawrence put down four perfect rounds in a row and with Danie missing in the fourth end he was able to close out the match with a 10-point win to take home the gold.
