The Griffith community is in mourning following news local man Maika Rahim was killed and three young children hospitalised in a nightmare crash outside of Whitton on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to the devastating scene on Saturday after a number of witnesses saw the car drift off the road before Mr Rahim over corrected, crossing both lanes of traffic and crashing into a power pole, according to Inspector Kim Traynor from Griffith Local Area Command.
Witnesses immediately called police but even though police and emergency services promptly attended the accident scene at Wilga Road, when they arrived the 28-year-old Mr Rahim was dead.
Three children who were inside the car when it crashed into the pole were also hurt in the accident, with a nine-year-old who was travelling in the front seat taken to Canberra hospital in a stable condition.
A two-year-old and another nine-year-old who were sitting in the back seat at the time were taken to Griffith Base Hospital in stable conditions.
On Sunday afternoon, police had no news regarding updates on the children's conditions.
An investigation into what happened to make Mr Rahim drift off the road is occurring, with police already marking the road where black tyre tracks show the cars final moments. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The loss of Mr Rahim has added to the already devastating total of 124 people who have lost their lives on NSW roads in a horror start to 2017.
31 of those lives were lost in April alone, the second highest April total since 2012, according to Transport NSW’s Centre for Road Safety.
The scene of the accident is the second fatality local police have had to attend in just over a month.
At the start of April a 52-year-old woman was killed when the car she was travelling in collided with a truck outside of Narranderra.
