Everyone has heard the saying and these three Griffith archers are living proof that putting in the hours pays dividends.
Marcel Zucatto, Nathan Rowley and Lawrence Salvestro all took part in the 2017 National Youth Archery Championships in Morwell, Victoria at the start of April and boy oh boy did they do Griffith proud.
By the end of the event Zucatto had claimed two golds, two silvers and a bronze, Salvestro had three golds and one silver while Rowley had a gold, a bronze.
The pressure was piled on Salvestro and Rowley who not only had to compete against each other in a number of events but they were also shooting in front of national selectors.
Salvestro kicked off proceedings in the clout.
The event was used to help Salvestro settle in but resulted in a gold medal.
The two boys then went up against each other in the target event and did their chances to make the Australian team no harm.
Rowley took the spoils this time around with a score of 1364 from 1440 with Salvestro in second.
Rowley backed up his effort with a bronze medal in wet and windy conditions in the field event before the pair were at it again in the short course.
The national selectors again watched on keenly as Salvestro came out on top with a new personal best while Rowley just missed out on a bronze medal on a count-back.
The final event for the boys would be the individual matchplay where the national selectors were, once again, keeping a close eye on the event.
Unfortunately for Rowley, a slow start cost him in the round robin competition as the archer was knocked out in the early rounds with a one-point loss.
Salvestro stood tall in the event as the sharpshooter beat all in front of him to claim gold.
The duo now wait to see if they have claimed a spot in the national team to compete in Argentina.
While all this was happening, Zucatto went about his business in the intermediate division. The youngster entered the clout to gain experience but gained much more as he took out gold.
A silver in the target and bronze in the short course followed.
The field event was next and despite having never shot the event before, Zucatto came away with a silver.
The impressive shooting saw Zucatto selected into a side for the team matchplay.
Zucatto honed in again and helped his team secure gold to finish off a week to remember.
