4.45pm: As Anzac Day services, events and rituals draw to a close for another year, former Area News editor Dan Johns reflects on how settled the occasion has become within our hearts.

4pm: The clouds parted and the afternoon ANZAC Day service in Whitton was bathed in soft afternoon sunlight as the community came to honour the fallen.

3.10pm: The Griffith Ex-Servicemen's club is commemorating the Anzacs with a game two-up on the one day of the year it is legal

1.50pm: The last of Griffith’s WWII veterans sit front and centre at the city’s traditional Anzac Day service.

1:45pm: AS THE rain softly fell, Leeton gathered undeterred along Pine Avenue for the main ANZAC Day service.  

1:30pm: The community in Yanco came together on a cold, wet day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

A nine person-service in 1998 grows to over 170 this year at Coleambally, as organiser wants us to consider post-service care.

9.30am: The Leeton Anzac Day march will go ahead unless there is a massive downpour before 10am. If rain does arrive the Anzac Service will be moved to the Roxy Theatre.

9.15am: The Griffith RSL sub-branch has expressed its regret after it says was forced to cancel its Anzac Day march on Tuesday morning, as rain continued to fall over the city.

8.30am:  A retired serviceman wants Australia to get it right – and here are his 16 important things he wants everyone to remember on Anzac Day.

Shaun Buckney, from Brisbane, is the son of a soldier, his father having served in the Australian military for 32 years including time at Vietnam.

Shaun enlisted in the army after he left school, he served for 15 years and did a tour of East Timor with the 26th Transport Squadron in 1999.

Shaun, now 50, is fed up with what he says is the media’s constant publishing of misinformation about the Anzacs and Anzac Day.

8.00am: Doubt surrounds Darlington Point Anzac Day march.

7.30am: NSW Police has issued a warning urging people to be sensible and responsible this Anzac Day. 

“This day is about honouring the brave men and women who have served our country, and paying tribute to those who died fighting for our freedom,” Superintendent Mark Walton said.

5.40am: Despite the rain Griffith’s Dawn Service saw hundreds of people rise from their beds in the early hours of the morning to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in service of their country.

No word as of yet whether Griffith’s Anzac Day March as been cancelled with an update on a wet-weather contingency plan expected from the Griffith RSL sub-branch at 8.30am.
