A score of five under par was enough to seal the win for Kim at Yenda and his near miss on the 11th played a big part in the victory.
“I think it was the 11th, the par four, it was about 215 [metres] to the hole,” Kim said.
“I just smashed it with a two iron and I was fortunate to get so close.
“It was about one ball from the hole.”
After smoking the iron shot, Kim had an inkling the shot was a good one but even he was surprised by just how close it was.
“As soon as I hit it, I knew it was going to be good but I didn't think it was going to be that great. I had a nice eagle there.”
It was the first Pro-Am win for the Korean golfer who has been based in Queensland for the past five years.
It was also just Kim’s third time competing in a Pro-Am.
Kim started his weekend off when he finished equal 24th in the Griffith City Volkswagen Charity Pro-Am with a score of three over par.
He said he hadn’t been hitting the ball too badly at the Griffith event but everything came together out on the Yenda course.
“I think the biggest thing was keeping it on the fairway from the tee box,” he said.
“I drove well for the whole week but I couldn't putt for the first two Pro-Ams and then today I just got the pace right.”
Kim beat out six players who finished on four under including Griffith City Volkswagen Charity Pro-Am joint winner Matthew Stieger.
