The case in question occurred in 1994 after a 21-year-old woman was walking home from a local hotel in the early hours of February 19.
While walking through the Griffith railway yards she was approached from behind by a man, sexually assaulted a number of times, assaulted and then robbed before the man left the scene.
She suffered a number of injuries, including broken ribs.
Police from the Griffith Local Area Command were granted an arrest warrant for a 43-year-old Tasmanian man late last year.
This week they travelled to Hobart where they sought and were granted the man’s extradition by a Tasmanian court.
The man, who is now 43, is expected to appear at Central Local Court today charged with a number of offences relating to the incident.
More to come.
