THE Griffith Golf course is being prepared for the coming Pro Am and players found the going tough in a single stroke last Saturday which was also the qualifier for the McNabb Caltex match play. Trevor Richards, 68 nett, won A Grade, firing 76 off the stick, carding birdies on the 6th and 14th.

Club Pro James Leathlean also carded 68 nett but lost the countback, shooting three under par 68 with birdies on the 3rd, 5th, 9th, 15th, and 17th. Jeff Wiscombe, 69 nett, won B Grade, 83, off the stick with nine pars. John Bortolazzo, 73 nett runner-up, only able to par one hole in his 92 strokes on a countback over Gary Hartnett. Terry Greedy, 69 nett, won C Grade, shooting 90, nailing a birdie on the 18th. Runner-up John Gavin 75 nett, around in 99. Pro Pins won by Bill Brown and Neil Mahaffey. Par Three’s 4th Jason Magoci, 7th Mark Brown, 11th Col Leeson, 16th Tony McBride. Vouchers to 75 nett.

A single stableford on Sunday and 31 brave souls faced heat, dust and strong winds in two grades. Mitch Howard, 38, won 0-18 Grade, carding nine pars ahead of Bryan Salvestro 35, with five pars. Chris Powys, 35, won 19-36 Grade, a four point par on the 6th, from Peter Clark, 34, nailing a five point birdie on the 4th, on a countback over Paul Careri.
Paul Piccoli won both pins on the 7th and 11th. Vouchers to 31 points.
The Griffith City Volkswagon Charity Pro Am is on Friday, March 24, in aid of Can Assist. Volunteers are required on the day to help with registrations, course spotters, ticket seller, etc. Please contact the Pro Shop or Wayne Moat if you can help.
The AGM is Tuesday, April 18. Nomination forms for board positions are on the notice board. If members pay full subs by March 31, $50 will be added to their account.
The event on Saturday is the Col & Pat Murdoch Memorial St. Patrick’s Day trophy. This along with Wednesdays and Thursdays events are single stablefords with a single stroke on Sunday.
The veterans played a single stableford in two grades last Thursday. David Woodside, 35, won 0-18 grade on a countback over Roy Calabria, 35. Doug McWilliam, 40, won 19-36 Grade ahead of John Bortolazzo, 34, on countback over Alllan King, 34. Borto also won the 11th pin, James Browne 7th. Vouchers to 31 points on a countback.
Veterans Thursday comp, has been brought forward to Tuesday 21. Veterans memberships are overdue, check board for financial members.
