As the competition got underway at the Narrandera Rodeo Arena cowboys and cowgirls from across Australia pulled on their boots, tightened their belts and their grip and put their skills to the test in front of a full house.
The competition drew riders old and new alike in a competition that has become a favourite for those far and wide.
The rodeo did not dissapoint and had a wide range of competitions.
From roping, bull riding and steer wrestling, there was something for everyone.
The stop in the circuit is one the athletes look forward to and Narrandera is happy to extend their hospitality to the influx of fans and competitors.
Lee Kimber is one who is familiar with the trip to Narrandera and looks forward to it on the circuit.
“I love it,” Kimber said.
“I reckon without tellin’ a lie it’d be 15 times.”
Immediately following his run in roping he was optimistic about maintaining his place on the ladder.
“10.95 in the roping is a pretty respectable time,” Kimber said.
“We go and rope and do out best and see how it all pans out.
“I’m hoping I’ll hang in there for something.”
Kimber was on the board for several events, of which the steer wrestling was at the top of his list.
The challenge and the adrenaline rush is what draws him back to the event year after year.
“Climbing off a horse doing 60 K’s an hour onto a steer, that’s the one I really like,” he said.
The Narrandera Rodeo’s popularity has been long lived and it’s attraction has drawn Wagga’s Mitch Millor into the fold to compete in second division bull riding for the first time.
“It’s awesome mate, just awesome,” Millor said.
“It’s nice and close, just down the road.
“I’m coming back, for sure.”
Narrandera will be waiting with open arms for them to return and show exactly what their made of.
