DEAN Minato and Mitchell Howard are the Brady Paint & Texture Norm Saxvick Memorial Red Gum Plate champions following a nail-biter final against Ray Barrington and Jeff Wiscombe last Sunday.

It was nip and tuck all the way, the match all square after nine holes. Barrrington and Wiscombe won the 10th, then only to lose the 12th and 13th, to go one down. They won the 14th and 16th, squared 17th, to go one up with one to play. Minato and Howard held their nerve, won the 18th with a par. The match was all square after 18. They then parred the extra hole for a win.
Wiscombe and Barrington had another close match in Saturday’s semis against Andrew Oates and Terry Bennett, all square after 18 but clinched it on the 19th. Bennett and Oates won the 16th and 17th to send the match into overtime.
In the other semi, Minato and Howard had a comfortable 4/3 win over Col Vearing and Jason Magoci.
The event for members on Saturday was a Bowmaker Team Stableford, played in fours with best three scores on each hole to count. The oldest quartet in the club, Bob Painting, Bill Brown, Tom Morgan and John Bortolazzo won the day with 119 points, despite only scoring one on the 17th.
Second were Steve Marland, John Harrison, Rob Trembath, Paul Smith 117 points. Smith birdied the 3rd and Marland a four point par on the 12th. Pro Pins to Martin Sweeney and Dave Gandy. Par Threes, 4th David Kidd, 7th John Gale, 11th Matt Ruming, 16th Neil Mahaffey. Vouchers to 106 points.
A single stableford in two grades on Sunday.
Winner of 0-18 Grade was Justin Robertson, 36, nailing a birdie on the 5th, on countback over Tony Dillon, 36, canning a birdie on the first.
John Evans, 38, won 19-36 Grade, four point par on the second, then drained a birdie on the 15th. Skeet Milne, 31, was second, nailing a birdie on the 11th. Mark Brown won the 7th pin, Milne the 11th. Vouchers to 32 points.

Tomorrow, veterans on Thursday and Sunday are all single stablefords, Saturday a single stroke March medal day. The veterans played a single stableford in three grades last Thursday. Tony McBride, 39, won 0-18 on a countback over Graeme Trevett, 39. Wal Hood, 37, won 19-27 on a countback over Doug McWilliam, 37. John Dalton, 38, won 28-36 Grade, Bob Painting, 32, second. Pins won by 4th John Gale, 7th Martin Sweeney, 8th Tony McBride. Vouchers to 32 points.
Veterans are reminded that time has passed to renew membership, unfinancial members will be excluded from competitions.
