The conference will return to Australia for the first time since Yanco hosted 20 years ago.
International Rice Research Institute Director General and keynote speaker Dr Matthew Morell emphasised the importance the conference holds for the industry world wide, describing it as an opportunity to shape the the global rice industry’s future direction.
This year's conference will also be having a specific focus on sustainability, water efficiency and productivity.
They are themes Rice Growers Australia (RGA) vice president and farmer Hayden Cudmore says are crucial to the area.
“If we are able to learn to better manage water for farmers that would be great,” he said.
“Water management has been a real focus of the RGA.”
Griffith City Council General Manager Brett Stonestreet says council is getting right behind the conference.
“Griffith is right in the heart of the MIA which produces 90 per cent of Australia's rice and our farmers are among the most efficient and innovative in the world,” he said.
“Council will take the opportunity to promote the fantastic business and livability attributes of our city and region with an exhibit stand to field questions and by hosting a luncheon for delegates.

Mr Cudmore said the positive impact would be felt by the consumer would only increase the quality and perhaps even the quantity of the product they see.
“Agriculture is a business and you want to be the best at it when it comes to being efficient and environmentally sustainable,” he said.
The conference is designed to highlight a broad spectrum of the industry and will feature sessions on breeding, agronomy, biotic stress and crop protection as well as precision agriculture, environment and quality and processing.
The annual event hopes to bring local and international delegates together to hear about the latest research, technology and innovation in temperate rice production.
The conference will be at the Exies Club and Regional Theatre from March 6 to 9.
