The production team of the sell-out musical Grease attend the gala event in Dubbo last weekend, taking it up to the country’s leading preforming arts schools with eight nominations.
Heath Neville was presented with the award for the best set design, the team also receiving high praise for the construction of its revolving stage.
The set design team consisted of Don Hillam as the ideas man, Heath Neville, the Picasso of the group, and Jamie Gibbs, Warren Bock and Simon Aventi bringing it all together in constructing the masterpiece.
“Our whole team is so good, in the sense that we always work really well together,” producer Belinda Aventi said. “Don has the industry experience, which is really unique, giving our shows the edge.
“Heath has the artistic vision and talent to pull it off and we have the guys that have the construction talent to bring it together.”
The group agrees nine CAT award nominations is nothing to be sneezed at, with the awards commanding such a high standard.
Marian’s nominations alone are worth mentioning, considering it went toe-to-toe with the likes of Woolongong Preforming Arts High School.
“This is such an honour to be compared to their productions,” Mrs Aventi said. “The school band under the instruction of Creative Arts co-ordinator Matthew Segrave, also deserves a special mention.
“Despite missing out on CAT awards, both the band and Matthew, as musical director, have been nominated for every one of our school musicals.”
Mrs Aventi said it was only with true dedication from the amazing team that an a award-winning production like Grease could be produced, giving the students the opportunity to perform for the Griffith community, and also giving them a rewarding educational experience.
