Griffith’s PCYC has been a community hub since its opening in 1961 and new manager Chris McGregor wants to see the club last in the Griffith community for another 100 years.
“Everyone remembers their local PCYC club for something or they have a favourite memory or activity they did there,” Mr McGregor said.
“I want to ensure those memories and that enjoyment continues in the Griffith PCYC for another 100 years.”
Mr McGregor, who grew up in Young, said he remembers the PCYC club being a place buzzing with people offering an array of activities and wants to see the same activities and vibrancy available in Griffith.
With a passion for health and fitness Mr McGregor has focused on providing more fitness classes to suit everyone including boxing, boxing for fitness, karate and dance classes.
“I have been involved with sport my whole life and I have also coached junior and senior teams so providing a platform for people to engage with fitness is highly important to me,” he said.
“I am very fortunate to have extremely passionate and qualified instructors to deliver all these classes and courses to the community.”
Mr McGregor said he has moved the youth drop-in centre from an upstairs back building to the downstairs main club area, making it more appealing and accessible to youths.
Another important move for the club was relocating the after school care from the PCYC grounds to St Patrick's Primary School to allow more parents to access the service.
“It was very important to provide affordable childcare to ensure all families regardless of their income could have access child care facilities,” he said.
“Relocating our kid's care has allowed us to keep our prices lower than the average and available to more people.”
