Last week it was a case of poor fielding letting the side down and captain Haydn Pascoe felt the performance was much improved this week.
“That is the biggest thing that wins you came is your fielding and taking catches,” he said.
“I don’t think we dropped a catch, so it was much better than last week.”
After winning the toss, Pascoe elected to bat without hesitation and it looked to be the right call.
Andrew Potter (22) and Pat Whittard (8) got the side off to a decent start before Whittard was dismissed by Luke Arandt (2/29)
Two quick wickets fell as both Pascoe and Dean Bennett fell without troubling the scorers to leave Griffith in a bit of trouble.
Fortunately, the wickets brought Jamie Winkler who first combined with Potter for a partnership of 26 runs before Potter fell and then a much more meaning full combination with Simon Mackie.
The middle order stood up for Griffith as the pair took the score from 4/55 to 5/127 when Winkler was trapped leg-before-wicket.
Pascoe was glad these two were able to get together and put runs on the board.
“Jamie and Simon batted really well in the middle order considering Hay bowled really well at the start as well,” he said.
“It’s great to have someone like Simon who we can call up from the lower grade.
"He would have been in our strongest side, but he was unavailable the last few weeks.”
Reece Matheson joined in on the run scoring with 35 down the order and a combination at the end with Ryan Greenaway (17*) lifted the side to 7/213.
Hay was unable to build any meaningful partnerships as the Griffith attack took constant wickets.
Captain Peter Learmouth was the only player who made an impact on the score when he put on 23 before being dismissed by Charlie Cunial.
Cunial was the standout bowler for Griffith taking four-wicket while only going for 10 runs off his nine overs.
Satvir Chahal was also effective taking figure of 3/8 off his seven overs while Alex Flood picked up two wickets for 11 runs off his seven as Hay lost five wickets in the space of five runs.
Down the order Thomas McGufficke (13) and Nick Baird (11) tried to kick their side along as they made double figures while putting on a 22 run partnership but it was in vain as the Griffith bowlers marched to victory.
When the final wicket fell to Chahal, Hay was still 151 runs short of Griffith’s total.
