Motorist were forced to wait at railway crossings for as long as 20 minutes before police arrived to direct traffic.
Commuters approaching the railway crossing at Blumer Avenue were backed up for more than 100 metres and a truck was forced to make a u-turn at MacKay Avenue.
A John Holland Rail representative said increased trains on the Country Regional Network resulted in the delays and they will work with rail operators to limit the amount of times trains are shunting through Griffith during the harvest season.
