The Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) are looking for new members for as many different walks of life as possible.
“Different backgrounds means we will have more of an accurate cross-section of the community,” Griffith LHAC Chair Margaret King said.
“At the moment we have a couple of vacancies and would love to see some new people get on board to offer some new perspectives.
The LHAC operates as the central connection between the local community and health care services.
It for this reason Mrs King wants as much of the community represented as possible.
During the last few years, the committee has worked hard to improve Griffith Base Hospital such as improving access to entry’s after survey’s conducted by the LHAC found it to be amongst one of the bigger issues.
“We have improved access to the emergency department which was much-needed work,” she said.
“Now we have moved on the task of beautification of the hospital wards putting up artworks to make the place more inviting.
“One of our more recent ideas is to put a sign above the main entrance so that it is more easily visible and people know where to go when they turn up here.”
Mrs King said the group undertake many worthwhile and varied community projects and awareness building activities all based around improving the health services and access in Griffith.
The group is in constant conversation with the General Manager of Griffith Base Hospital so any recommendations can be enacted as quickly as possible.
The hard work the LHAC’s put in not just in Griffith but the entire Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) has been recognised after they were recently awarded Riverina Volunteer of the Year by the NSW Centre for Volunteering.
Interested people are encouraged to visit the MLHD website or call 6933 9176 for an applications pack.
Applications close on Monday, January 30, 2017.
