Each year Amarjit Singh looks forward to Christmas with enthusiasm as he transforms himself into Santa Singh and enjoys the festive occasion.
Mr Singh, who is a man of great Sikh faith, said it was lessons he learnt from Christianity that attracted him to embodying Santa and celebrating Christmas.
“I look forward to dressing up as Santa as I have a deep faith in the Christian religion...and the importance of Christmas and giving,” Mr Singh said.
He said Christmas held a great importance in the community, which was also popular throughout the Sikh community and broader Indian community.
“I want to show everyone the Sikh people believe in Christianity and enjoy Christmas just as much as anyone,” he said.
Mike Neville from Betty Boo Wigs & Costumes dressed him up this year, as they had done every year and said it was a wonderful to help Mr Singh fulfil his vision.
“This adds value to Christmas and with the cultural diversity we have in Griffith, it is important to respect peoples believes and it is great to have [Mr Singh] with his deep spiritual background, supporting a Christmas tradition,” Mr Neville said
“Christmas is about giving and what Mr Singh does is a random act of kindness and that is special for this community.”
