A 22-year-old male entered the store on Banna Avenue just after 5pm on Friday afternoon.

Upon entering the store the male asked for the change from an earlier purchase.

A staff member asked him to produce a receipt which he was unable to do.

The manager at the store was called and asked him to produce the receipt. It was there the offender produced a wooden handled scalpel and threatened the shop attendants.

He turned and left the store dropping the scalpel as he left after the staff challenge him a third time. Police were contacted and found the weapon used had been stolen earlier in the day.

The man was located on Railway Street at about 6pm and conveyed back to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with demanding money with menace, use of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of intimidation and stealing.

The 22-year-old will appear at Griffith Local Court on December 14.

Police were called to a residence on Couch Road at around 10.25pm on Saturday after a dispute between an occupant and his 25-year-old male neighbour. 

Police believe the altercation had been going for much of the evening.

Shortly before police were called the 25-year-old man entered the neighbours premises causing damage to an interior wall and throwing objects breaking a window.

He was arrested by police and charged with aggravated break and enter and a serious indictable offence, malicious damage and assault.

He was granted bail to appear in Griffith Local Court on December 21.

Inspector Kim Traynor of the Griffith Local Area Command has issued a reminder to drivers from Griffith and the surrounds to be careful heading into the festive period.

“The police will be increasing patrols around the Christmas period,” she said.
