The number of starters of the two-legged type were greatly reduced for race four of the Hotfoot competition.
Just 37 registered for the long course while 25 Griffith Feral Joggers turned out for the short course.
The lack of numbers also meant a lack of traffic for Adam Johnson.
He negotiated his way through the field to find himself crossing the line in first place.
Johnson’s time of 24:51 was his fastest for the 2016 Hotfoot competition and the second fastest of the day.
The fastest went to Aiden Fattore in 24:01 who finished in sixth.
Fastest female was Lena Sergi (34:35) and despite her efforts could only manage 22nd place.
Second-placed Simon Fattore continues to gradually improve his times and hone his race tactics as he posted a time of 30:14.
He also managed to hold off Peter Stockwell who was third in a time of 29:01.
Matthew Watson (29:43) immediately gained the attention of the handicapper in his maiden event.
The newcomer crossed the line in fourth place in front of competition leader Tony Gullo who posted a time of 27:22 in fifth.
With only three races remaining – and the top six in the competition all placing in the top 10 this week – Gullo will be feeling the pressure to continue his form.
He’ll no doubt need to continue to finish near the front of the field to ensure he maintains his lead.
After spending eight weeks on the long course, Aaron Salvestrin returned to the shorter version stylishly.
He took line honours in a time of 16:06 and pipped competition leader Kate Morshead (17:10) and Mia Stockwell (18:06) in third.
Gavin Callcut continues to improve on a weekly basis.
This week he finished in fourth place in a solid time of 17:52.
Next home was Gerry Wilcox in a time of 17:38 and race three winner Donna Jackson (20:47) wasn’t very far behind.
Isabella Salmon continued her speedy form to post the best time of the day for the third consecutive week.
Her time of 15:50 secured eighth place and keeps her in touch with Morshead in the point-score.
The joggers meet every Saturday at the green water tower opposite Pioneer Park.
Racing starts at 5.30pm and joggers are encouraged to arrive early to register.
