POLICE have launched a manhunt after a mystery gunman fired two bullets through the front wall of a Lake Wyangan home yesterday morning.
The occupants returned home at about 4am to find the fibro Dickson Street house pierced by two bullet holes, later discovering two .22 calibre bullets inside.
No one was home at the time of the shooting.
Crime scene detectives removed the bullets from the home yesterday and the residents, believed to be a young couple, were interviewed and kept under police guard.
The attack has left police clambering for answers and Inspector Craig Thorp from Griffith Police called on the community to help track down the shooter.
"We have a number of leads but no firm evidence of who this offender might be at this stage," Inspector Thorp said.
"It was extremely lucky no one was home at the time.
"The bedroom's at the front of the house, as it is in many homes, and this could have been a tragedy.
"We hope local residents may be able to assist us in pinning down the actual time the shooting happened and help identify any vehicles which may have been in the vicinity at the time."
Anyone with information should call Griffith Police on 6969 4299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
